"Really Kevin? You're making coffee right now?" Dani asked walking over and taking the carafe from her husband. Kevin sighed and leaned heavily into his wife while she finished making the coffee. "You need to talk to Joe," she said turning him around until he faced his brother who stood in the doorway of the small kitchen where they grew up. Selena stood behind him. "Talk to him Kevin." "Is he gone?" Kevin asked. "Nick went on a walk with Macy," Selena replied. "He was pretty shaken up." "Shouldn't you have gone with him?" Kevin snapped. "Isn't he your boyfriend?" "I wanted to be here for Joe," Selena replied. "What the hell is your problem Kevin?" Dani walked over and grabbed Selena's hand to pull her out of the room. Selena broke free and raced back to hug Joe from behind. "If you need me I'll just be upstairs, okay Joeybear?" Joe nodded as she let go and followed Dani up the steps. "Are you sure Macy is the one you have a crush on?" Kevin asked. "Why didn't you tell me?" Joe shouted. "You knew we had a brother all this time, and you didn't tell me!" "His mother destroyed our parents. You were too young to notice, but Mom and Dad fought all the time. Nick's mother was Dad's assistant at the office. She trapped him into an affair and then got pregnant!" "What Nick's mother did is hardly his fault!" "Did you know that your birthday and Nick's are exactly one month apart? That woman thought she could steal Dad away by getting pregnant. She planned all of it. Throughout the years she did her best to draw him to her through visits to see Nick. He was a commodity that she traded to get things from him. How do we know he's not here as part of some twisted plan to get what little we inherited from our parents?" "She's dead Kevin! He transferred to my college to run away from his past. He didn't come looking for me." "How do you know she's really dead? He could have just lied to you!" "Because when he told me about her he had the same look on his face that you did when Mom died. He's lost and alone. Maybe you should stop blaming Nick for something he had no part in. You're nto the only victim here." Joe marched upstairs unwilling to wait for Kevin's response. Kevin groaned before dropping to a seat at the kitchen table. He supposed Joe was right. He couldn't rightfully blame Nick for what their parents went through. He didn't ask to be born into that situation. Kevin yelled out in anger before punching the table and causing a dent. "Nice job there He-man," Dani said with a giggle before draping herself on his lap. "If you break that table we will have to buy a new one. We have a new baby to pay for so no destroying the furniture." "Sorry," Kevin said as he buried his face into Dani's stomach. "I just want them back. Seeing Nick here just reinforces that they're gone." "Unfortunately, you can't get them back," Dani said stroking his hair. "But now you have a chance to get to know your little brother. And a chance to bring a child into a loving family with two uncles. Your family may have grown small, but it's growing by the minute now." Kevin smiled and kissed her belly and his child growing inside. He had married a wise, wise woman. [AN: A little screaming. A little cuddling. Kind of like when my family gets together. :)]
