See and hear how the young designer, Thomas Pedersen, talks about his rocking chair, Stingray - a piece of furniture that he originally made himself as his final year project at Århus Architectural College in 2002. Since Fredericia Furniture began industrial manufacture of Stingray in 2004, the rocking chair has won several design awards around the world, including the prestigious German Red Dot Award, and the Danish Design Prize. Thomas Pedersen's original rocking chair, which he called Rokke the Danish word for a stingray, was made from fibreglass. Today, the seat of Stingray is made from plastic or ply. The ply version, which Fredericia Furniture launched in 2008, is made of 3D veneer, shaped in the world's largest tension mould, reviving interest in Stingray and honouring it as a "contemporary classic".
