Apr 8, 2012 - actually, that is incorrect. The sun will swell up and the gravitational force will NOT pull us into a expanded orbit, we will likely be engulfed. Mercury, Venus, and possibly Earth will be swallowed up by the sun when it swells up before cooling off by shedding it's outer layers and becomes a planetary nebula. Get your facts right before posting please.

Apr 9, 2012 - If the sun expanded to a red giant, we wouldn't have to worry about that, because astronomers and astrophysicists say that it would expand to the edge of the asteroid belt, thus killing us all.

Apr 9, 2012 - No, because gravitational force of an object doesn't depend of density, just mass. So, it would slowly be growing towards us, but we wouldn't be able to move, because the gravitational pull. And even if the gravitational pull did decrease, I don't think that the pull would decrease fast enough for us to get a safe distance away, so either way we'd be screwed I'm sure.

Apr 9, 2012 - Oh, if only that were possible. 1: Humans will never stop killing each other, because of their territorial nature. 2: There's really nothing we can do, because that means we'd have to move the Earth. and we would have probably killed each other off way before the sun becomes a red giant.
