Pacing. Back and forth, that was all Selena could do. What was she doing here? She had no business being here if she wasn't 100% sure with her decision. She had gotten a hotel room at the local Hilton, since she didn't have a lot of friends here to stay with. Selena didn't know how she ended up on the front porch of her old house. She wasn't even sure if her dad even lived there anymore, but her curiosity had gotten the best of her, as usual. She rang the doorbell twice and stood in the freezing rain waiting for someone to open it. She knocked on it a few times, but when they failed to open it she grew frustrated and smacked her arms against the door. The door pushed open and Selena stood frozen looking into the home. Nothing. There was no furniture; it looked like nobody had been living there for years. She walked around slowly and listened for any noise. The home looked almost abandoned. She looked down at the ground and saw a letter. "Dear Gomez Family, You have fallen behind on your mortgage payments. You must bring the mortgage current within 30 days of the date of this letter by sending the amount shown below to [company name} in the form of a money order or certified check.....If this message does not receive the reply in the 30 days, your home will fall under foreclosure" Selena looked at the letter speechless. What the hell had happened? Her family was more then well off when she had spoken to them last. Selena had called her father two months before college started and demanded the trust fund her mother had left her, but that hadn't left them broke had it? Her father had a great job, and even her gold dissing stepmother had some money. What had happened to her stepbrother Zac? Was he still living with them, or out on his own? More questions Selena had that would probably always be unanswered. She walked upstairs to where her old bedroom was. She looked around the empty room and walked into her closet. She was surprised to find some boxes. Her father obviously had never bothered moving the junk she had left behind when she moved in with Logan. Selena bent over to look inside the boxes, old pictures mostly- a few random trophies from spelling bees and soccer. She started crying though, when she picked up a picture of her mother and her. Selena looked about seven in the photo, and her mother actually looked happy- it was the last photo ever taken of her. Selena was hunched over in the fetal position crying in her old closet. While she was sprawled out on the ground she turned her head to see that she had carved some things into the baseboards. "Selena Lerman" Was scribbled in with sharpie. She had completely forgotten that she had written that- she must have been thirteen at the time. Her and Logan started there first "fling" in seventh grade, and were on and off until the end of high school. Next to it "Selena + Logan" Was carved in. Selena sighed; if only her seventh grade self had known how much pain he was going to put her through. It wasn't that she had come here looking for such a huge sign like this- but she figured she shouldn't upset the universe anymore then she already had. She glared at the clock on her phone. It wasn't too late to go over to Logan's. Even though she had zero idea where he lived, she still remembered where his mother lived. She knocked on the door a few times and it suddenly flung open. A little tiny girl opened the door. Her piercing blue eyes stared right through Selena's sole. She knew exactly who that little girl was, no matter how hard she tried to forget her daughter the image of her holding that little baby with huge blue eyes had stayed with Selena for five years. "Hi" Selena said quickly, as soon as she realized she had been starring at the little girl for such a long time. She felt tears forming in her eyes, and more then anything all she wanted to do was lean over and hug the little girl tightly. "Grandma!" The little girl said, "Stranger danger" She called running into the house, "Stranger danger" "Who is it Aubree?" She heard that familiar voice. Suddenly Selena felt like she was frozen- it was Logan. She couldn't be here, she just couldn't face him. So naturally when she heard his footsteps coming towards her, she dove into the bushes. 1. What do you think happened with Selena's family? 2.
