Bethany Robinson had two identities. The one her mother knew to be, proper, elegant and superior. And one she hid well away from anyone she had ever known. Tonight was her 19th birthday, but in Beth's case, it was just another night of dressing up in a tight, fitted ball gown and being introduced to numerous of her parent's associates as their 'Smart little girl who will be enrolling for Brown after the summer.' She sighed, running her hands down over her stomach—feeling the silken fabric of her white dress. It was straight and ran down to the floor, leaving a pool of the material behind her. The back of it exposed her creamy skin and neck line, emphasising her beautifully sculpted shoulder blades and collar bone. Her hair was perfectly adequate for her mother's fancy, as it was bundled together at the back of her head with curled tendrils falling out of place. Her make-up was heavily applied as her mother had hired a make-up artist for the occasion, so it would stand out from behind her feathered mask. Beth pulled it up to her face and attached the string around to the back of her head, making it comfortable. ''Darling, come on.'' Julia, her mother insisted—holding open the door for her as she stood in the frame. Without a second glance at the mirror, Bethany quickly scurried over to the vanity table and took her purse and followed her mother through the door. ~xXx~ ''Yes, Bethany will be attending Brown after the summer holidays.'' Her father said. She stood at their side politely, her teeth digging into her red lips harshly as it was the only way it stopped her from saying anything. It must have been the 5th time that her father had told one of their guests this evening, and she had only entered half an hour ago. To say it was her birthday ball, nothing and no one attending had anything to do with her. Of course family had joined and a few of the snotty acquaintances her mother and father expected her to be friends with, but not her real friends. ''May I be excused for a moment?'' Bethany asked sweetly, already edging away from the small gathering. She rushed across the ballroom, placing her tall wineglass on one of the round tables she pasted and hurried out of grand door. Bethany rapidly ambled down the great hall way and pushed her way into one of the spare rooms, feeling the tears prick her eyes. She breathed heavily, slamming the door behind her and stumbled to the nearest object or furniture she could find. Her hand was grasped around her stomach and a large lumber of her hair had fallen out of its place and dangled down into her glistening, blue eyes. Gaining back her strength to stand, she pulled her hand away from, what happened to be a huge Mantel piece, she held the back of her hand up to her face. ''Why are you being a brat, sweet Bethany?'' A low, husky voice asked. Bethany turned abruptly being greeted by a shadowed figure, which stood next to the window seat. He held a tall, glass of wine in his hand and the other was pushed into his pocket. She squinted her eyes, holding onto the mantelpiece from behind and sucked in a breath. ''Excuse me? I am not being a brat.'' She argued back. ''Still stubborn, I see.'' He retorted, placing his glass down onto the window seat and sauntering over to her quivering body. ''Who are you?'' Bethany snapped, moving quickly to the sofa and chairs that sat in front of the fire place. She was still wearing her mask, and he was wearing his. She could see as he stepped closer that his hair was a dark blonde colour and his eyes were a roguish brown. He laughed haughtily and lowered his head, pulling the sparkling material of the mask away from his face and then raked his hand through his hair, tousling it to the side. He stepped closer to her, revealing his well chiselled physique and smirked as the look of bewilderment struck her features. ''J-Justin?'' She croaked, leaning in closer to see if this dark figure could possibly be her childhood friend. ''Hello, Beth.'' Justin whispered. __________________________________________ Hoped you like it guys!
